Lesson 3

«Misty morning on the lake»

Duration - 1 hour

Let's get started on our first painting. In this lesson, we will depict the state of morning fog over the water. We will try to achieve the feeling of misty haze.

In this lesson, we will:

  • learn to work across the entire surface of the paper with large, wide brushes (flat brushes made from goat hair);
  • learn to work on the wet state of the previous layer;
  • learn to work in the «alla prima» technique — meaning taking the pigment at its full strength;
  • understand the principles of aerial perspective, compositional construction based on the «golden section», and working on dry, dried paper.

Lesson 4

«Golden autumn»

Duration - 1 hour 10 minutes

In this lesson, we will paint a bright and juicy picture of golden autumn. We will convey the contrast of sunlit foliage against the dark sky after rain.

In this lesson, we will:

  • learn to boldly and broadly paint the sky with some nuances of dense clouds;
  • learn to associate the brightness and juiciness of the yellow-golden crown of trees in one stroke;
  • understand how to create depth in the story of the painting by using the law of aerial perspective, where the background should be light, the middle ground more saturated, and the foreground very active with the addition of small details;
  • learn to feel balance and harmony in the story of the painting based on the principle: large spot, medium, and small and their arrangement in the composition of the painting.

Lesson 5

«In the Rays of Sunset»

Duration - 1 hour 30 minutes

I suggest immersing ourselves in an atmosphere filled with sunlight penetrating through the clouds, reflecting bright glimmers on the surface of the lake. We will paint nature in the rays of sunset.

In this lesson, we will:

In this lesson, we will:

  • learn to paint the sky and clouds on wet paper;
  • learn to depict the soft crowns of trees on a wet backdrop of the already painted sky, creating a sense of moisture in nature after the rain;

  • learn to apply a dense pigment contrast with the background.

Lesson 7

«Marine Cove»

Duration - 1 hour 20 minutes

Let’s capture the unity of the morning sky and the calm surface of the water in a cozy cove.

In this lesson, we will:

Frequently Asked Questions

Even if you think you have no talent and have never drawn before, the course will be useful for you. It's important to remember that talent is not something everyone is born with. Drawing is a skill that can be developed and improved with practice and learning.

The course is designed to accommodate different skill levels, including beginners.

If you have a plan without feedback, it will depend on your personal pace at which you go through the lessons.

With plans that include feedback, we actively go through the lessons for two months from the moment you "unfreeze" the course.

In general, I recommend taking the course at a leisurely pace. Enjoy the process more.

It’s never too late to learn to draw. In our school, 30% of the students are over 50 years old. They enjoy drawing, developing their skills, creative thinking, and feel younger in spirit and mind!

At the end of the lesson, you will post a photo of your work. The instructor will have the opportunity to leave you a textual, graphical (annotations on the drawing), as well as an audio comment.

At the bottom of each lesson, there will be a comments block where you can ask any questions regarding your learning.
