About the course

This course is your full watercolor journey: from those first confident strokes to complex, multi-layered scenes. You'll learn to see not just objects on paper, but light, color, atmosphere, and mood — the things that make a painting feel alive. We'll build harmonious compositions where people, animals, and objects fit naturally into the landscape, and every element looks expressive and believable.

You'll master light, airy washes and learn to handle details so they support the painting instead of weighing it down. The course will show you how to create depth and space through color, and how to manage light and shadow so the scene breathes and feels three-dimensional.

Who this course is good for:

Beginner artists who want to learn watercolor from scratch. Calm, step by step, without fear of "ruining" a piece. We'll break everything down — from a simple pencil sketch to multi-layered treatment of complex scenes.

Those who've tried watercolor but feel they lack a clear system, confidence in composition, or a solid grasp of color. You'll learn to control moisture, value, and form so each piece looks cohesive and professional.

Lovers of landscapes, animals, and floral scenes who want to paint light, lively pictures filled with air and sunshine.

Anyone looking for inspiration and a flow state — watercolor is not just about paint, it's a meditative process, attention to detail, and the feeling of beauty in the moment.

Course program

Block 1. Theory

In this block you'll meet me and the course structure, and learn which materials are best for following the course.

Lesson 1. Meet the instructor

In this lesson I'll tell you a bit about myself and my watercolor journey, what inspires me when I work with color, light, and atmosphere. You'll learn what to expect from the course, which techniques we'll study, and which stories we'll create on paper.

Lesson 2. Materials Overview for Course

In this lesson we'll go through all the materials in detail so you can comfortably and effectively follow the course.

Lesson 3. Mistakes Are Part of Artist's Journey

In this lesson I'll share my most valuable mistakes — the ones that helped me grow, find my way, and gain confidence in watercolor. An honest talk about what really shapes an artist.

Lesson 4. Watercolor Sky: Light, Air and Clouds

In this lesson you'll learn to paint the sky in all its moods — from light clouds to vivid sunsets. We'll cover wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques, how to blend cool and warm tones without making them muddy, and how to shape brushwork so the sky looks alive, voluminous, and filled with light.

Block 2. "Wheelbarrow with Geranium and Watering Can"

In this block we'll create an atmospheric summer still life — an old garden wheelbarrow filled with blooming geraniums and a watering can in the grass. This scene is about simplicity and warmth, home and garden, and the quiet joys of everyday life.

Duration ~ 3 hours 35 minutes

Lesson 5. Let's draw a sketch

In this lesson we will:

  • place objects on the page in a balanced, harmonious way;
  • learn to convey proportions and perspective of simple objects;
  • plan the light-and-shadow solution already at the sketch stage;
  • start preparing the base for expressive watercolor washes.

Lesson 6. Washes

In this lesson we will:

  • choose harmonious color combinations;
  • convey texture and the character of objects with watercolor.

Lesson 7. Watercolor part

In this lesson we will:

  • step-by-step paint the main objects — the wheelbarrow, geraniums, and watering can;
  • learn to work with midtones and reflections to convey volume and material;
  • add light accents that create the feeling of sun and air.

Lesson 8. Final accents

In this lesson we will:

  • place the final strokes to strengthen the compositional center;
  • emphasize contrasts of light and shadow to make the piece sing more;
  • add small details and textures to give a sense of completion.

Block 3. "Bicycle with Flowers"

In this block we'll create a light, sunny scene with a nostalgic feel: a vintage bicycle by a house wall, decorated with bouquets of fresh flowers. We'll work on a harmonious composition, soft color transitions, and expressive texture contrasts — metal, petals, light, and shadow.

Duration ~ 3 hours 30 minutes

Lesson 9. Let's draw a sketch

In this lesson we will:

  • cover composition and the rule of thirds;
  • construct the bicycle form while keeping correct proportions.

Lesson 10. Washes

In this lesson we will:

  • block in the background wet-on-wet and add soft shadows;
  • establish the overall color mood of the scene — warm, with light playing on the wall and in the flowers.

Lesson 11. Watercolor part

In this lesson we will:

  • define the bicycle's form, highlighting curves and metallic shine;
  • detail the flowers, adding painterly accents of violet, pink, and green;
  • work from general to specific, refining volume and texture.

Lesson 12. Final accents

In this lesson we will:

  • add highlights and contrasts to emphasize depth and space;
  • indicate veins, glints, and flower petals with light brush touches;
  • balance the composition and place final accents.

Block 4. "Girl Picking Apples"

In this block we'll create a warm, cozy scene — an autumn garden filled with light and golden tones. We'll start with a sketch to build composition and movement, then move to the watercolor part to convey soft light, depth, and the mood of early fall.

Duration ~ 4 hours 25 minutes

Lesson 13. Let's draw a sketch

In this lesson we will:

  • work out the scene layout on the page and the rule of thirds;
  • study the basics of constructing the human figure in space.

  • develop the clothing and hair of the figure, adding soft light reflections;
  • learn to make the main subject stand out using value and color contrasts.

Lesson 16. Final accents

  • refine silhouettes, enhance light and depth;
  • add highlights to the apples and soft shadows under the basket;
  • accent the mood of a quiet autumn day filled with warmth and light.

Block 5. "Tea in Garden"

In this block we'll create a cozy summer corner — a wicker chair, a small table with flowers, and a decorative cage. This scene is about calm, light, and the feeling of rest in the garden's shade.

Duration ~ 3 hours 35 minutes

  • add details — the bouquet on the table, the cage, and the play of glints and reflections.

Lesson 20. Final accents

In this lesson we will:

  • strengthen compositional and color accents, highlighting the main point of the scene;
  • add light strokes and textures to enliven the painting's space.

Block 6. "Landscape with Bridge"

In this block we'll paint a bright, romantic landscape with a small bridge, surrounded by flowers and trees. It's a story of calm, summer air, and soft sunlight reflected in the water.

Duration ~ 3 hours

Lesson 21. Let's draw a sketch

In this lesson we will:

  • determine the placement of the bridge, trees, and floral accents on the page;

Block 7. Conclusion

Lesson 25. Course finale

In our final class we'll summarize the course. We'll remember how far we've come — from the first strokes to complex, multi-layered scenes. We've learned to see light, color, texture, and mood in every landscape.

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely! The course is designed so that it starts with simple paintings and gradually moves to more complex ones, so you'll have time to settle in and reach great results.

The course will also be useful for experienced artists. You'll be able to further refine your technique and expand your visual experience.

At the end of a lesson you'll upload a photo of your work. The instructor can leave a written comment, graphic notes (marks on the image), and an audio comment.

At the bottom of each lesson there's a comments section where you can ask any questions about the training.

If you're on a plan without feedback, it depends on your personal pace while going through the lessons.

On plans with feedback we actively go through the lessons over two months from the moment you Course Unfreeze the course.

In general, I recommend taking the course at a relaxed pace. Enjoy the process.

It's never too late to learn to paint. In our school 30% of students are over 50. They happily paint, develop their skills and creative thinking, and feel younger in spirit and mind!
