What you’ll paint during the marathon


In this lesson, you’ll learn how to:
- creatively transform a photo reference by changing the animal’s surroundings;
- use a combo of techniques: painting on wet paper and on dry;
- work with deep, rich monochrome colors to capture the mood;
- mix just two shades to get a whole range of color options.


Let’s paint an arctic fox
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to:
- use white paints to create atmospheric effects;
- show a light object on a light background;
- work with masking fluid to save those bright spots;
- use lifting techniques to show the texture of light fur.


Let’s paint a raccoon
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to:
- combine techniques: painting on wet and dry paper to get that playful raccoon fur;
- use special brushes that are perfect for creating fluffy fur effects;
- draw the animal from a tricky angle;
- simplify your drawing when working with unusual poses.


Let’s paint a marten
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to:
- show the animal’s unique features;
- mix colors right on the paper;
- create a complex, natural coat color;
- make a background that’s different from the photo reference and capture a lively, expressive look in the animal’s eyes.


Let’s paint a manul cat
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to:
- show the manul’s unique features;
- capture its signature pose and proportions;
- combine textural tricks for that wild, fluffy fur;
- add dark accents to make the form pop;
- make the eyes look alive and full of expression.
